Berhampur: Low pressure induced incessant rains flooded low-lying areas of Berhampur Wednesday disrupting life at many places of the city and leading to chaotic traffic conditions.
The entire stretch of the main service road was inundated by over two feet of drain water. Along with this, water submerged the sixth lane, 11th – 14th lane of Gajapati Nagar in the city. Besides, the main road of Prem Nagar, Dharma Nagar, Shishu Mandir road of Nilakantha Nagar and main road of Lochapara saw massive waterlogging quite like every year.
Even though, the local residents have complained about this issue time and again with Berhampur Municipal Corporation (BeMC) officials, desiltation of drains and closing of manholes ahead of monsoon are yet to be done, rued a local lawyer Satish Panigrahi.
To add to the worry of the denizens, the half-constructed drains have emerged as a cause of major concern.
BMC authorities, however, claimed that the administration is on its toes to address the challenges rising from the rains.
“We have been working continuously to address all the complaints pertaining to waterlogging. Clogged drains are being cleaned through excavators and humans to ensure smooth flow of rain water,” additional health officer of BeMC Ranjit Patra said.
