Cuttack: Expressing concern over police inaction, the Orissa High Court (HC) Monday directed the Madhupatna police to register a case in connection with the alleged abduction of a 16-year-old girl of Jayjagannath Colony at Khapuria area here in May this year.
A division bench of Justices Indrajit Mahanti and Biswajit Mohanty gave the directive in response to a petition filed by the victim’s father. The court has also directed the police to take expeditious measures and rescue the minor girl.
According to the petitioner, the victim had gone to a nearby market May 25 this year when three miscreants intercepted her midway and abducted her. The petitioner had approached the Madhupatna police in this regard. However, the police neither registered a case nor did they show any concern to rescue the girl. The petitioner had even approached the deputy commissioner of police. But, it did a precarious little. With no options, the hapless father finally moved the HC seeking its intervention.
