Barang: A hippopotamus calf was found dead at Enclosure No 62 at Nandankanan Zoological Park (NZP) Friday morning.
According to NZP sources, a male hippopotamus has killed the calf which was born January 10. The carcass, which was fished out from the water, bore injury marks, said the sources. It was buried after a post-mortem was conducted.
With this, the hippopotamus population at the zoo has dipped to 13 – three females, eight males – and the gender of the remaining two are yet to be ascertained.
