HM donates blood, saves student

Nabarangpur/ Papadahandi: The headmaster (HM) of Majhiguda School, Babulal Harijan turned saviour for a student, Sunita, daughter of Bahnumati Agaria of Gadakotara village under Papadahandi block, who was suffering from sickle cell disease.

Sunita, who is a Class- VII student of Aunli School, has been suffering from the disease since few days. She fell ill suddenly Saturday and was rushed to Nabarangpur district headquarter hospital (DHH). Doctors at the DHH asked the mother of the patient to arrange a blood unit for her as the same group blood unit was not available at the DHH.

Meanwhile, Harijan came to known about the incident and rushed to the hospital and donated a unit of blood to patient.

Earlier, a disabled man, Debanand Lamta, 28, donated a unit of blood for a pregnant woman, who was suffering from shortage of haemoglobin in Nabarangpur district.

Phula, the wife of Jadab Bhatra, a resident of Sakarguda village, was admitted to the District Headquarters Hospital by ASHA workers. Doctors at DHH tested the woman’s blood and found that she was suffering from acute haemoglobin deficiency.

The doctor asked the pregnant woman’s family to arrange B Positive blood immediately as it was not available at DHH. But the patient’s kin could not find a donor and panicked.

Meanwhile, a security guard informed Debanand about this. Hearing the matter, Debanand rushed to the DHH, donated a unit of B Positive blood and saved the patient’s life.
