Bhubaneswar, May 23: Hockey Orissa entered the final of the National Sub-Junior Boys’ (Division-A) Hockey Championship blanking Hockey Karnataka 3-0 in the semifinal in New Delhi, Saturday. They will meet Hockey Haryana in the summit clash Sunday.
Defending champions Hockey Orissa played aggressively and called the shots from the very beginning. Amit Chirmako opened the account in the 15th minute by converting a penalty corner. Asmin Kujur doubled the lead in the 29th minute with a solo effort. Pradip Lakra struck the third goal in the 38th minute to seal the fate of the match in the first half itself.
In the other semifinal Hockey Gangpur lost 3-5 to Hockey Haryana. Mandeep Kerketta (14th), Albert Tete (64th) and Amandeep Lakra (69th) scored for Gangpur. However, Vishal Antil (50th, 63rd), Abhishek (56th, 67th) and Parmeet (69th) scored for Haryana and took them to the final. Hockey Gangpur will face Hockey Karnataka in the third-fourth play-off match prior to the final.
Scan Sporting win
Scan Sporting Cricket Club beat Union Sporting by eight runs via Duckworth Lewis method in a rain-truncated match of the Laxminarayan Cup cricket tournament at the Rajkishore Vidyapitha in Cuttack, Saturday.
Opting to bat first, Union Sporting scored 164 all out in 19.4 overs, thanks to whirlwind knocks by Imran Khan (69, 37b, 5×4, 3×6) and Sanjib Barik (45, 26b, 5×4). Pravanjan Mallick (5/17) took a fifer to restrict Union Sporting.
In reply, Scan Sporting achieved the revised target in 13 overs by scoring 120 for the loss of four wickets. Man of the match Sai Jagadish Jena (46, 20b, 6×4, 3×6) and Dinesh Sahoo (31, 25b, 6×4, 3×6) batted well for Scan.
Players selected
Two players of Orissa have been selected, Friday, in the Indian team for the Asian Rugby Championship at Tashkent, May 27-30. They are Muna Murmu and Bikash Kumar Jena.
