Bhubaneswar, April 17: As a matter of concern for the public and the administration, the lone homoeopathy pharmacy in the state, which is located at Dr Abhin Chandra Homoeopathy Medical College hospital here, is unable to meet drugs required by its constituent hospitals and dispensaries.
The mini pharmacy is supposed to produce and supply drugs to about three homoeopathic medical college hospitals and 561 dispensaries across the state, but has failed to do so.
“The essential drug list prepared by AYUSH for homoeopathy contains 257 drugs, but the pharmacy produces only 40 of them. Sadly, many commonly needed medicines are not being produced here by the pharmacy,” said an employee of the hospital on condition of anonymity.
The pharmacy is reportedly producing 20 mother tincture and 20 potency drugs. However, commonly used drugs such as Cineraria eye drops and mullein ear drops are not prepared here, leading to difficulties for people depending on homoeopathic treatment.
“The state has sanctioned Rs 25 lakh for drug manufacturing last year. We have produced and supplied as per order by the government and as per the capacity of the pharmacy,” said Surya Narayan Misro, principal of the medical college and hospital.Earlier, the state was procuring essential drugs from pharmacies in Goa and Kerala but the practice was abandoned three years ago, leading to a dearth of medicines.
“As the mini pharmacy here could not match the needs of the people, the state was procuring medicines from pharmacies outside the state. As that practice was stopped, the state is facing a problem,” said an hospital employee.
