BHUBANESWAR: University Law College, Vani Vihar, organised the first-ever Antarik Sarkar Memorial National Moot Court Competition 2019 April 6 and 7, 2019, in the fond remembrance of Antarik Sarkar, a former student.
He was charismatic fellow whose enthusiasm towards law and its multiple curriculums was not only extraordinary but remains unparalleled even this day.
The aim and purpose of the competition was to give exposure to students pursuing the law course to the environment of law system in India and to hone their advocacy skills.
It also aimed at providing a real life experience cum training in doing cutting edge research, presenting ground breaking arguments and contributing to the development of jurisprudence in concerned areas of law.
It was a three-round competition where the preliminary round had 10 teams from all over the country who were judged by the knowledgeable aluminis and young energetic advocates of Bar; out of which 4 teams got selected for the semi-final rounds who were judged by the senior advocates of The High Court of Odisha.
Three High Court judges comprising Justice Debabrata Dash, Justice Pramath Pattnaik and Justice Akshya Kumar Mishra presided on the final round.
After a long session of arguments and submissions, the team from Prestige Institute of Management and Research, Indore, bagged the championship trophy, certificates of merit and a cash prize of Rs 10,000. They were followed by the team from UPES, Dehradun, which bagged the runners-up trophy, certificates of merit and a cash prize of Rs 5,000.
Apart from that, participants were felicitated with the awards for best orator, best memorial, best researcher and best student advocate.
Under the guidance of Abinash Das and Shibasish Pani, student convenors, an organising team was formed comprising of students of INT.BA.LLB(H) who gave their level best in providing accommodation, food and hospitality to the guests, judges and the students participants for which they were acknowledged.
It was indeed a splendid success for the University Law College as expressed by the guests, judges and students participants in their compliments.
