Bhubaneswar, July 5: The play titled ‘Purnna Purusha’ was staged at Rabindra Mandap in the city, Wednesday to pay tribute to the late Oriya film and theatre icon, Minaketan Das. The play was staged at the ongoing two-day long theatre festival, organised by Mukti—a contemporary theatre group. The story focuses on the relationship between men and women. “The hero Samagra is struggling with the problems in his daily life. He is also looking for a woman who is right for him, as every man does. On the other hand, heroin Shaswati also seeks for an ideal man. Her search remains incomplete as she realises that no one is perfect. Perfection is just a process, and in reality, it doesn’t exist,” Surya Mohanty, the director of the play told Orissa Post. Meanwhile, the protagonist Shaswati (played by actor
Saubhagini) explained her character in the play. “My character is a victim of sexual abuse by her teacher. She is later married to the teacher. She, then, tries to look for a new identity and changes her name to be happy in her new life. But, unfortunately, she realises that she cannot be happy with the man, who abused her,” the actor said. “I loved the role I played as it was different and challenging,” she added. The play has been penned by Vijaya Pandit, who is famous in the world of Hindi cinema and serials. He received Mohan Rakesh award for his creation—‘Purnna Purusha.’ The play has been translated into Oriya by Zakir Khan. Zakir is a well-known Oriya poet, story writer and translator. The crew included Veejayant Dash (set and costumes), Pandia (set execution), Simant Mohanty (light), Pratap Rout (Music) and others.
The fest will conclude, July 6. The play titled ‘Madhusudan Nanda Bayasa-78’ will be staged on the last day. The play has been written by Sriram Dash.
