Bhubaneswar: Director General of Police (DGP) Binaytosh Mishra Friday reviewed the prevailing law and order situation, major crimes and policing arrangements across the state and directed police authorities to identify sensitive areas and take advance measures to prevent untoward incidents.
Chairing a high-level review meeting at the State Police Headquarters in Kataka, Mishra held detailed discussions with all Range IGs/DIGs and district Superintendents of Police (SPs), who participated through video conferencing.
The meeting focused on the current law and order situation, prevention and control of crime, identification of sensitive areas, review of serious crimes, improvement of police services and various administrative issues.
The DGP directed police authorities to ensure adequate deployment of personnel at sensitive locations, effective crowd and traffic management, regular meetings of peace committees and continuous coordination with local people’s representatives and community groups.
Mishra emphasised the need for police personnel to listen patiently to citizens approaching police stations with complaints and to treat them with respect and courtesy. He directed officers to ensure impartial and prompt investigation of grievances and improve the overall functioning of police stations. He asked police officers and personnel to remain regularly present at their offices and discharge their responsibilities effectively.
The DGP stressed the need for advance security and law and order preparations for festivals scheduled between August and November. He directed police authorities to closely monitor communally sensitive areas and undertake preventive measures well in advance to avert any possible untoward incidents during the festive season.
For effective crime control, Mishra ordered stringent legal action against habitual and organised criminals. He also directed police to intensify naka checking and patrolling to curb the illegal transportation of cattle and illicit manufacture of firecrackers. On cybercrime, the DGP directed authorities to strengthen the functioning of cyber police stations and make investigation and follow-up action in cybercrime cases more effective.
He asked all district SPs to visit cyber police stations at least once a week and review their functioning. He also directed SPs to organise regular peace committee meetings, strengthen public relations at the local level and take preventive measures to maintain peace and communal harmony.
Mishra further ordered regular raids and vehicle checks, along with prompt legal action against those involved in the illegal extraction and trans portation of minerals.
