Bhubaneswar, March 1: Around 300 students from different colleges of Orissa and from outside the state took part in the fifth edition of a national-level mega quiz contest, Debasish Das Memorial IT Quiz, to test their skills in diverse subjects. Most of the students, who battled it out during the show were from management and engineering
colleges.
The show, which was organised by Mindfiresolutions, an IT software services company, witnessed participation of numerous prestigious colleges which included IIT-KGP, KIIT, NIST, OCE, ITER, CET, Silicon, KISD among others. The show, which screened the candidates through several rounds of questionnaires, was filled with moments of anxiety, nervousness and hope.
Sourav Adhikari, a student from Indian Institute of Mathematics and Applied Sciences in the city said, “I often take part in quiz shows. Since my childhood I have been taking part in such shows, which test my knowledge beyond my studies. I find these very interesting. Even in this edition, questions were very interesting and it really helped in enlightening me.”
Another student Subhadeep Ghosh, who took part in the event said, “Such type of quiz shows often open our minds and allow us to explore things which are often outside the arena of our text books.”
The quiz show, held through the Sunday at Hotel Mayfair near Nayapalli, comprised questions across diverse topics. Questions, which the participants were asked, related to e-commerce, innovation, marketing and technology among others. Four teams selected through wild card entry competed with four other teams and finally a team was selected for the trophy. The result was announced in the late evening.
Ankesh Anand and Rajesh Dalei from IIT Kharagpur finally won the quiz and were awarded Rs 1 lakh and the runners up were Omkar Amrutnahsu and Loy Larvin Rao from KIIT who were awarded Rs 50,000. These apart several other prizes, including trophies, iPods, tablets, digital cameras, T-shirts, pen drives, backpacks and watches were given to some participants selected on the basis of their good performances.
