Brajarajnagar: Police in Brajarajnagar busted an illegal firearms syndicate, arrested three persons and sent them to court in connection with the case Tuesday.
The accused have been identified as Banti Prasad, Vishal Bag and Santosh Khedkar — residents of the OPM area under Brajarajnagar police limits in Jharsuguda district. Police seized five country-made pistols and 30 rounds of ammunition from their possession.
Jharsuguda Superintendent of Police Gundala Reddy Raghavendra said at a press conference that Banti Prasad had brought illegal firearms from outside the state and sold those to two individuals, while planning further sales. Acting on intelligence inputs, Brajarajnagar police led by Inspector-In-Charge Dhabaleswar Sahu, along with sub-inspectors Prabhakar Patra, Abhaya Mohanty and Purnima Oram, conducted raids Monday night.
Police first detained Vishal Bag and recovered two country-made guns from him. Based on his interrogation, Santosh Khedkar was arrested and two more firearms were seized. Later, Banti Prasad was arrested, and one more country-made pistol was recovered from his possession. A case (95/26) has been registered at Brajarajnagar police station.
