Jajpur road: The Vyasnagar tehsildar held a raid at Bhaitarani riverbed and seized two Hitachi machines as also two dumpers from the sand mafia while they were illegally smuggling sand Wednesday night. The sand mafia escaped from the spot.
Alongside the tehsildar were the Korei IIC Chinmayee Sahu, Tarakot Ri Bishnu Charan Panda and a police team.
With not much action from the administration, the sand mafia is illegally smuggling sand worth crores to other states, causing huge revenue loss to the district administration. It was after several complaints and vacillation that the taluk administration woke up. A case has been registered and the vehicle owners will be arrested, police said.
