Bhubaneswar: Maitri Vihar police Sunday seized 400 litres of illicit country liquor during a raid in the Salia Sahi area of the City and arrested one person.
According to police sources, officers received reliable information about the illegal sale of country-made liquor from a house at Birsanagar under the Salia Sahi locality.
Acting on the tip-off, police raided the spot and caught the accused, identified as Salku Tiriya (35), red-handed while allegedly selling country liquor without a valid licence or permission from the competent authority.
During the search, police recovered 20 plastic buckets of 20-litre capacity each, containing a total of 400 litres of illicit distilled liquor.
Samples were collected for chemical examination, while the remaining seized liquor was destroyed on the spot as per the prescribed procedure.
Salku was booked under Section 52(a) of the Odisha Excise Act and forwarded to court following his arrest.
Further investigation into the matter is underway, police added.
