Bhubaneswar: IMD Cuttack has been recognised as long-term observing station for over 100 years of hydrological observations.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik congratulated IMD Cuttack staff through a tweet that read, “Congratulations to scientists & staff of Cuttack IMD on being recognised by @WMO as long-term observing station for over 100 years of hydrological observations. Commend its role in providing quality hydrological observations which are essential in dealing with climate hazards.”

Notably, the World Meteorological Organisation is a United Nations specialised agency charged with encouraging worldwide collaboration in atmospheric research, climatology, hydrology, and geophysics.
It can be mentioned here that, long-term environmental observations are part of the irreplaceable cultural and scientific heritage of mankind that serve the needs of current and future generations for long-term high-quality observational records.
By recognising long-term observing stations according to a list of criteria, WMO promotes sustainable observational standards and best practices that facilitate the generation of high-quality long-term time series data.
The certificate given to IMD Cuttack refers to the relevant resolution of the Nineteenth World Meteorological Congress, May 2023.
