Bhubaneswar: Paradip Port Authority (PPA), under the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways (MoPSW) inaugurated Indian Maritime Week 2025 here Wednesday and organised a roadshow on the theme ‘Navigating the Shift of Indian Maritime Sector: From Volume to Vision’.
The event was attended by Industries Minister Sampad Chandra Swain as the chief guest, MP Bibhu Prasad Tarai, Industries department additional chief secretary Hemant Sharma and Housing and Urban Development principal secretary Usha Padhee, alongside industry leaders and stakeholders.
Speaking on the occasion, Swain highlighted Odisha’s vision to be India’s eastern maritime gateway, aligned with Viksit Bharat 2047.

He emphasised shipbuilding, ship-recycling, blue economy opportunities, and inclusive skilling, while assuring state support for Bahuda Port and Kendrapara’s shipbuilding initiatives under the ‘Viksit Odisha 2036’ vision.
Highlighting Odisha’s roadmap, Padhee said, “We aim to expand capacity from 80 MTPA to 500 MTPA by 2047 through modernisation, infrastructure and a proposed Odisha Maritime Board. Women’s participation must rise to make growth inclusive.”
PPA chairman PL Haranadh said, “India Maritime Week, scheduled in Mumbai from October 27 to 31, 2025, would host over 100 maritime nations, 200 speakers, 500 exhibitors, and one lakh delegates.
“The Ministry targets MoUs worth Rs 10 lakh crore, with Paradip Port aiming for over Rs 1 lakh crore,” he added, citing major projects like the proposed Bahuda Major Port (Rs 21,500 crore), Mahanadi shipbuilding hub (Rs 24,700 crore), and a cruise terminal at Puri.
