Strap: Army personnel of 120 Infantry Battalion displayed an array of weaponry to students of a city school to acquaint them with the culture of armed personnel
BHUBANESWAR: BMPS Takshila School in collaboration with 120 Infantry Battalion, Bhubaneswar, organised ‘Display of Weapons & Equipment’ on the school premises here Monday.
Events organised by the school are opportunities for students to enrich their knowledge, showcase their talents, and interact with distinguished personalities.
The latest event was no different as it was aimed at acquainting the school students, who are also the future leaders of the country, with the culture of the armed forces of India.
Honoured with the presence of the Commanding Officer of the Battalion, Col. Debadutta Swain and his associate Lt.Col. Bharat Sharma as well as other army personnel, the event was a great celebration to watch, which left an indelible mark on the students and the school staff.
The school was well laid out with various weapons with army personnel manning them with vigilant eyes. The weapons that were displayed were 5.56mm INSAS Rifle, 5.56mm INSAS Light Machine Gun, 51mm MORTAR, 7.62mm Medium Machine Gun, 81mm MORTAR, 9mm Carbine Machine Gun Pistol, No 36 Hand Grenade.
The equipments displayed at the event were Radio Set Star V, Hand Held Radio Set, Binocular and Global Positioning System. The students were mesmerised by the display and took extra enjoyment in holding the weapons and using them, without any real ammunition.
Throngs of parents also came to watch the programme, perusing the weapons, clicking snaps and interacting with the personnel. The whole school atmosphere was agog with curiosity and eagerness of the students and the staff alike.Earlier in the morning, Col Debadutta Swain addressed the gathering of senior students, informing them about army as a career option for students. He related the details of entry and training. He also answered many questions from students regarding the armed forces and its operations.
The guests were presented with mementos by the Director Sikata Das, after the event. Chairman of the school Tutul Kishore Das was also present on the occasion. Students Ansul Mishra and Abhishek Rath enjoyed holding the 9mm Carbine Machine Gun as it made them feel powerful.

Another student Jagruti Mishra enjoyed the whole display and showed her desire to become a fighter plane pilot. Not only students, their respective parents were also pretty wide-eyed while checking out each of the weaponry and equipments displayed.
