Berhampur, Jan 15: Even as junior doctors of MKCG Medical College and Hospital here prepare to take to streets against government’s failure to fulfill their promise, health minister Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak said work on various projects to develop the hospital infrastructure would be finished soon.
In an interaction with the media during his visit to the city Wednesday, Nayak said work on various projects worth over Rs 500 crore is going on on the hospital premises.
He further added that as per a decision of a high power committee of the state government, necessary equipment for treatment of patients in the hospital has been procured.
The government has been trying to fill up existing vacancies of doctors in the hospital. However, it cannot make progress as the matter is sub-judice. Simultaneous efforts are on to fill up vacancies by ad-hoc staff.
The Regional Diagnostic Centre and the Trauma Care Centre of the hospital will provide 24X7 services soon. E-tender process has been completed to provide free medicines in the three government-run referral hospitals of the state. The Orissa State Medicine Corporation will provide medicines to these hospitals through the Drug Distribution Centre (DDC). Construction of the DDC on MKCG premises will be completed soon, Nayak pointed out.
He assured that the government will fulfill all the demands of junior doctors.
Asked on measures to contain jaundice that is spreading in the state, Nayak said all hospitals have been asked to remain alert to tackle the disease. He, however, said there is no need to panic as the situation has been under control.
