Bolangir: The police claimed to have busted an inter-district looters’ gang and arrested three dacoits in the district. A case was registered and the three were produced in court Friday.
The accused have been identified as Gopal Barik, 26, Bijay Podh, 35, alias Kaka of Bhagbhati under Sadar police limits and Sudhir Kudei alias Bagha, 23, of Chandrapur under Tusura police limits.
Earlier, the police had arrested three – Manoj Singh, Rajendra Mirda and Akshay Bagarti of the gang, additional superintendent of police Subash Chandra Jamadar revealed at a press meet.
The police seized two two-wheelers, five mobile phones and sharp-edged weapons from their possession.
According to sources, the gang targeted people on highways and looted them. A motorcyclist was robbed of Rs 1.75 lakh on Sadaeipali-Kandhpali road March.
Similarly, the gang snatched the cash and motorcycle from Nimai Charan Behera, branch manager of Bharat Finance Inclusion Ltd, while he was returning to the office after collecting payments from debtors.
Since then, police had registered two separate cases and was on the lookout for the miscreants. A special team was constituted to nab the desperadoes. Later, the arrest was made after raids.
The miscreants have several cases pending against them at Bolangir, Titilagarh, Kalahandi, Bargarh and Narla police stations, sources said.
