Balasore, Jan 16: Police busted an inter-state dacoits’ gang and arrested four of its members Thursday night. The police also seized Rs 23 lakh, three revolvers, a Mauser and two motorcycles from their possession.
The accused were Santosh Kumar Das (22) and Sasikant Mohanty (22) of Ubharchak, Sheikh Sannabulla (32) of Balubazaar of Balasore and Sheikh Azad of Sadar police station area.
Several cases of loot have been pending against them in West Bengal and this district. A team of police from West Bengal had tracked a telephone call of one of the accused and reached here. They arrested Sannabulla on the premises of the district headquarters hospital. Three others were arrested while they were in a car.
Police said the mastermind of the gang is staying in Bhubaneswar. A couple of days ago, Rs 8 lakh was looted from Orissa Gramya Bank. Police suspect that these dacoits may be involved in the incident. The four have been kept in an undisclosed location where the superintendent of police grilled them.
