Bhubaneswar: The city is set to host a three-day international film festival featuring 21 films starting April 21. Seven international films — one from Afghanistan, two from Kyrgystan and four from Bangladesh — are to feature in the event to be held at IDCOL auditorium.
Priya Ranjan Sahoo, the president of the organising body of the event, ‘Golden Triangle International Film Festival (GTIFF)’, said: “The event is open to all. On the first day we will screen films from 2pm to 10pm, on the second from 10am to 10pm and on the concluding day from 10am to 5pm.”
According to Priya Ranjan, the film from Afghanistan, Utopia, and one of the films from Kyrgystan had been sent for the Oscars in 2016.
According to a statement, Golden Triangle Charitable Trust, a special purpose body, was created for organising the international film festival in the state. It has been proposed to attract the best films from the world to the city.
“We would like to be part of the universal creative exchange of ideas. Besides organising GTIFF, the trust also supports other Film Festivals in India,” the release added.
According to the organisers, GTIFF will be held from April 21to 23 each year in one of the three cities forming the Golden Triangle, namely Bhubaneswar, Puri and Konark.
The films to be screened at GTIFF are: ‘Utopia’ (Afghanistan); ‘Asman Aldynda’ (Kyrgystan); Kurmanjan Datka Queen (Kyrgystan); Jalala’s Story (Bangladesh); Mohua Sundari (Bangladesh); Bapjaner Bioscope (Bangladesh); Cheleti abol tabol meyeti (Bangladesh); Adibhumi (Hindi); Song of the Horned Owl (Assam); The Silence (Maharashtra); Tulasi Apa (Orissa); Capital-I (Orissa); Spandan (Orissa); Amar Prathiva (Bengal); Otia Last MMS (Bengal); Adhunik (Bengal); Ujantali (Bengal); Suitcase (Bengal); Mane Mondal Patasala (Karnataka); Namma Kudla (Karnataka); and Harivu (Karnataka).
The organisers of GTIFF have also established a three-member jury to judge the films. The best feature film will be awarded `50,000, the best short film RS 15,000, the best documentary RS 15,000 and the best director (feature film) RS 10,000. The artist of the year (male) will get a prize of RS 10,000, and best jury award will fetch RS 10,000.
