Chennai: Rajasthan Royals captain Ajinkya Rahane has been fined Rs 12 lakh for maintaining a slow over-rate during the IPL match between against Chennai Super Kings here.

“As it was his team’s first offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, Mr. Rahane was fined Rs 12 lakh,” read an official IPL statement.

Rajasthan Royals suffered their third straight defeat Sunday night when they lost to Super Kings by eight runs. Chasing 176 runs to win, Royals were reduced to 14/3 in 3.1 overs thanks to a two wicket haul by Deepak Chahar (2/19). However, Rahul Tripathi (39, 24b, 5×4, 1×6) and Steve Smith tried to make amends before the former got out off an Imran Tahir (2/23) delivery.

The struggling outfit next host Royal Challengers Bangalore in Jaipur Tuesday.
