Puri, February 22: Renowned Oriya filmmaker Sushant Mishra Sunday conducted a workshop on filmmaking to impart training to the budding filmmakers from across the country. Mishra is well known for his work in parallel cinema. A fan of the noted director late Nirad Mohapatra, Mishra dedicated much of his time during his workshop in advocating the need of development of an artist at an individual level.
“Now many of you are in college. You enjoy a bonding and work together. Soon you will be out of college and then you will realise that you have to develop as an individual. It is only your talent and determination that will decide your fate then. Unfortunately, most of the budding talents get inclined to commercial cinemas. This is the market trend now. But the world does not end there. There are diverse scopes in filmmaking where people can make their career.”
Around 80 aspiring filmmakers took part in the event. Appreciating the effort taken by the organisers to organise the event, he said, “Normally film enthusiasts and experts from the movie world seldom get a place to discuss critically the various facets related to filmmaking. Film festivals give an apt platform to many like-minded people to discuss that. “People who want to make a career in cinemas or people who want to know more about cinemas should visit these film festivals,” Mishra said.
Mishra also took a dig at the dependence on technology in filmmaking. He said, “Now many people are getting influenced by machines.
“These days machines are dictating human minds. For artists it is sin. This should never happen. Creative minds should always dictate machines, then only quality products emerge. Filmmakers need to live more in real world than virtual world.”
Mishra is known in Orissa for his parallel cinemas. His film Shadows of the Rainbow was screened at Cannes Film Festival in 1995. He has made several other movies.
