Bhubaneswar: Inspector in-charge (IIC) of Jatni police station was Monday arrested on charges of demanding and accepting Rs 50,000 as bribe from a victim who wanted a penal section charged against him to be removed. The victim was identified as Sumit Mangaraj of Kudiari village under Jatni police limits. The accused IIC, Sanjib Kumar Mohanty, demanded `1 lakh from him for expunging a section from FIR copy. Mangaraj informed the vigilance officials who hatched a plan and caught Mangaraj red-handed. The vigilance sleuths were conducting searches at his residence and office. Irate locals made an attempt to hit Mangaraj while the latter was being taken into custody, said sources.
