Jharsuguda: Members of the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) and Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) undertook separate inspections on the prospects of granting licence to Jharsuguda airport to operate Airbus-320 flights.
“The inspection was for granting license to operate 4C category aircraft, i.e. Airbus-320. The Jharsuguda airport will get the license to operate these aircraft on the basis of the report of BCAS and DGCA,” said SK Chauhan, director, Jharsuguda airport.
Sources said the two-day inspection started Thursday. A deputy director from Mumbai DGCA and an assistant director from Delhi undertook the inspection. They checked the ATS tower, emergency health facility, runway, electrification at the runway, security post, terminal, tower and other facilities like water, electricity, road, etc.
A five-member team led by BCAS regional director DP Sharma also checked all facilities related to the security of the airport.
DGCA will submit a detailed report within a week, Chauhan said. While the airport already received category 2B license in May, and the director is hopeful of getting the 4C type license soon.
