Daringbadi: This is the story of a youth and his extraordinary journey from a petty tailor to one of the most sought after foley recordists in the Hindi film industry.

Hailing from a family of tailors from here in Kandhamal district, Varun Bisoyi, son of widow, has worked for over 150 films, some with highly acclaimed director, over the last 12 years.

Varun has worked with stars like Amitabh Bacchan, Aamir Khan, Nana Patekar and Ranveer Singh among others.

Some of the famous films for which he has worked are Three Idiots, Bajirao Mastani, Ghajini and Robot.

Among his upcoming movies are Jagga Jasoos starring Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif, Chef starring Saif Ali Khan and Toilet: Ek Prem Katha starring Akshay Kumar and Bhumi Pednekar.

Varun has also worked for Oriya, Gujarati, Telugu and Marathi films.

However, Varun’s early life has been one of struggle. He was in Class VIII when his father died.

Varun’s elder brother also went missing and remained untraced till date. Under these circumstances, Varun, at a very young age, shouldered the responsibilities of his family by taking up his family profession of tailoring. He was forced to drop out of school and earn to get his sister married off.

Varun had a great inclination towards music since childhood. When he expressed his desire to go to Mumbai, his mother initially refused.

However, subsequently he succeeded in persuading his mother to follow his dreams. He borrowed money from friends and set off for Mumbai in 2002.

Being completely alien to the city, he was clueless to find a work. What he had was a basic idea that most of the song recording studios were based in Andheri.

After being rejected by several studios, he was finally appointed as a cabin boy in a studio. He was in-charge of supplying food to the artistes. Varun was then promoted as an office boy when he was first introduced to music systems.

Slowly, he learnt the art of creating music and sounds for all genres of films. Soon, he became an expert in voice dubbing and later learned the ropes of foley recording.

Sensing Varun’s abilities, the studio owner made him an assistant recordist. Since then, there has been no looking back.

Varun, who once borrowed money from his friends, is now earning lakhs and has a bungalow in Mumbai.

Despite achieving success in the film industry, he chose to marry a girl of his district. He is a father to two daughters.  PNN
