Paris: Iconic designer and creative director of mega fashion brands like Chanel and Fendi, Karl Lagerfeld passed away here Tuesday and now his cat ‘Choupette’ could inherit his $200 million fortune.
Lagerfeld doted on the fluffy white Burmese cat who could well become the richest feline on the planet.
Choupette is habituated to flying in posh jets and eating off silver platters ever since Lagerfeld ‘kidnapped’ her from his young friend and male model Baptiste Giabiconi.
Long before his death, the German designer had stated that he had made sure that his beloved cat would go on living the plush lifestyle that she is accustomed to with her own personal bodyguard and two maids.
“Choupette is a rich girl,” he once told French television. “She has her own fortune,” he added hinting that the cat is worth at least $3.4 million which she earned with Lagerfeld doing adverts for a German car firm and a Japanese cosmetics brand.
A feline superstar in the fashion world, Choupette is the hero of her own book titled ‘Choupette: The Private Life of a High-Flying Fashion Cat’.
But despite Lagerfeld’s unequivocal love for his pet cat, under French law, the German could not leave his millions to Choupette.
“That’s okay,” he told reporters when quizzed on the subject, ‘because I am not French’, hinting that the money could be left in trust.
