Keonjhar: A day after a gruesome road mishap snatched the lives of six occupants of a car near Rimuli under Champua police limits in this district cops identified the deceased Thursday. They informed me that five of the deceased were related.
The deceased were identified as Sanjay Mahakud, his wife Sandhya Mahakud and their 12-year-old daughter Pihu, Lucy Palei (sister of Sandhya) and Phulanti Palei (mother of Sandhya and Lucy).
The sixth person who died was the driver of the vehicle, Promod Palei. The bodies were sent to Champua sub-division hospital for post-mortem following which they were handed over to the respective families Thursday for the last rites.
Police officials visited the mishap site Thursday and launched an investigation to find out the real cause behind the mishap. Police have also seized the truck that allegedly hit the ill-fated car from the rear. Due to the violent impact from the back, the car crashed into another truck in front leading to the death of all the six occupants. Police had to call fire brigade personnel to bring out the bodies from the car
