Keonjhar: The Keonjhar stadium, the only stadium in the district, was built at a huge cost, but it is now facing neglect.
The stadium’s unsafe main gate (made of iron bars) has become a ‘sword of Damocles’ for children who come to play here. The district administration seems to be non-serious regarding the matter.
People of all ages enter the stadium through this broken gate. The other gate of the stadium, from the reserve police side, is always closed.
A layer of lawn grass was spread over the stadium for beautification. But the numerous meetings and functions held here have ruined it. Moreover, there is no roof over the gallery and its surroundings are deserted. Bushes now cover most of the stadium’s premises.
Reacting to this, sports persons like Nirmal Nayak and Pradeep Mohanty said, “Although the stadium attracts many people who come here for morning walks, playing and exercising, most of the time it is frequented by anti-socials.”
