Bhubaneswar Dec 20: It was a fashion show with a difference. A line-up of attractive models walked the ramp at the ongoing 9th Toshali Crafts Mela wearing dresses made of khadi Saturday.
Audiences were packed to the rafters on the sixth day of the fair. Models wearing products jointly made by the National Institute of Fashion and Technology and Boyanika were cheered and applauded by the audience.
Raja Parida, chief nodal officer of the Toshali Mela, said, “The fashion show was aimed at showcasing traditional Orissa clothing in a modern way. Such events will help in attracting people towards traditional clothing which will in turn help the weavers’ community.”
Rituraj Mohanty will be performing at the fair Sunday. “His presence will draw a large number of visitors. Security has been beefed,” Parida said.
Officials of the handloom, textiles and handicraft department said that, till date the fair has done a business of nearly `2 crore, comprising `85 lakh in handlooms, `7 lakh in handicrafts and `27 lakh in food sale.
