Bhubaneswar: Wednesday, told the media that the Commissionerate Police (CP) would prepare ‘Vision Document 2020’ to make the police more robust.
“We will prepare a vision document 2020 in which we will focus on the areas where we have to improve. We will also put forth the requirements of the CP in the vision document and submit it to the state government for its approval. We will also send a copy of the document to the Orissa Police headquarters in Cuttack,” Khurania said.
“The CP has been improving during the last eight years and I will ensure that the good work is being carried forward. Maintaining law and order in the twin cities, checking cyber crimes, curbing road accidents and others are in CP’s priority list. Emphasis will be laid on traffic management in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack. We will also push for road safety audits to ascertain the reasons behind frequent mishaps,” he added.
Admitting the fact that there is no let-up in the cases of murder, theft and rape under the CP jurisdiction in past four years, Khurania stressed on requirement of more human resources to effectively tackle the rising crimes.
“We will try to fill the vacancies in the CP. Everything is not in our hands, but we will definitely try to expedite the process,” said the police commissioner.
“The police have become more sensitive now and I will ensure free registration of cases. I will prefer that more cases are registered so that it will help strengthen people’s faith on us. I will also direct the cops to be more sensitive regarding the issues pertaining to women, children and senior citizens,” he added.
Speaking about the four miscreants, who had allegedly fled from a hotel in Master Canteen area here January 25 night, Khurania said it would be premature to label them as ‘terrorists’.
Khurania, who was appointed the additional police commissioner in 2008, became the fifth police commissioner since the inception of the CP in 2008.
