Bargaon/Hemagiri, Feb 9: A Plus II girl from Sahajbahal area in Bargaon, kidnapped while on her way to her house along with her father two days ago, has been rescued from Barpali village in Sundargarh district, police said Monday. Four persons including two minors have been arrested.
The main accused is a 17-year-old college student from Barangakachhar village in Bargaon. His friend, a 17-year-old college student from Talimunda, was among the arrested for abetment in the crime. Sushil Sa of Barangakachhar village and Manas Majhi, the driver of a vehicle used for the kidnap, from Rasarajpur village in Sadar, were the other two arrested. All the accused were produced before a court, police said.
Police said the girl was handed over to her family members after a medical examination. However, some other accused, including Pramod Sahu of Bheluabahal village, were absconding. The main accused, a Plus II first-year Arts student of Barangakachhar village in Bargaon, had an attraction to the girl. After her family members came to know about this, her father used to accompany the girl on her way to college. The girl’s family even arranged a marriage for her with a youth from Balinga in Hemagiri area. When her lover came to know about this, he, along with the other accused, laid out a plan to kidnap the girl.
They came in the SUV and kidnapped the girl along with her father near Talimunda when they were returning home on a bike after she attended the Plus II practical examination Friday afternoon. The kidnappers dropped the girl’s father near Karamdihi forest road and headed for Hemagiri. The accused took the girl to the house of Pramod’s relative and confined her to a room. Acting on information, a police team raided the house in Barpali and rescued the girl Saturday night and also arrested the accused.
Police said the main reason behind kidnappers keeping the girl confined in a house in Barpali village was that it was located only a few km away from Balinga where her marriage was fixed. They wanted the information to reach the prospective bridegroom’s family so that the marriage plan could be thwarted.
