Bhubaneswar, March 28: WGM Kiran Manisha Mohanty(6) continued her fine form to script an emphatic win and in the process jumped to the third spot along with her state mate FM Soumya Ranjan Mishra(6) and five others, after the end of the eighth round of the IIIrd All India Bhubaneswar Fide Rating Chess Championship here Saturday. GM RR Laxman of Tamil Nadu and Mitrabha Guha of West Bengal shared the top position with seven points each.
Soumya Ranjan could manage a draw and was dropped two places behind. Soumya was held by S Amardeep Bartakke. Kiran Manisha continued her brilliant form to beat Krishnater Kushager. Utkal Ranjan Sahoo and Sambit Panda also registered convincing victories. Utkal overcame Siddayya Gabi, while Sambit prevailed over Rajarshi Dutta. Rajesh Nayak played a drab draw with OT Anil Kumar.
However Rakesh Kumar Jena, Sunyasakta Satpathy and Saina Salonika lost their respective matches. Rakesh suffered a humiliating defeat from laxman, while Sunyasakta was downed by S Adithya. Saina gave a tough fight but Santosh Raj Panda got better of her.
Three share lead
Three players are sharing the top spot with a total of six points each after the end of the sixth round of the Xth All Orissa Open Chess Championship at the Secretariat Recreation Club, here Saturday. They are top seed Manas Parida & Sahadev Khatei of Bhubaneswar and Aditya Patnaik of Cuttack. Prakash Sahoo, Debojit Sarbangya, Arati Bijoy Mohanty, Tukuna Kandi & Sunil Shetty are closely following them with five points. Four players are in the joint third position with 4.5 points each. They are Birakishore Behera, Santosh Sinha, Sailendranath Rout & Akhila Majhee.
In the fifth round, 13th seed Aditya Patnaik drew with Manas Parida on the first board and fourth seed Sailendranath Rout drew with second seed Birakishore Behera on the second board. In the sixth round, Manas defeated second seed Birakishore on the first board.
