Bhubaneswar: Orissa Woman Grandmaster (WGM) Kiran Manisha Mohanty settled for silver medal despite winning her ninth round match in the chess event of the All India LIC Annual Sports Meet here, Sunday.
Kiran, who was representing East Central Zone, outplayed Radhika Devi Chavali of South Central Zone in the final round. Kiran finished her campaign with eight points, including seven wins and a couple of draws. West Zone’s Swati Ghate who finished with 8.5 points, clinched the title after beating Jyoti Mehra of North Zone.
West Zone won the Championships Trophy for the best performance. A Yogesh and Monica Athare were adjudged the best man and woman athletes respectively.
