Ganjam: Thanks to the apathetic attitude of the officials of Ganjam NAC, a suitable place for the proposed waste management plant is yet to be identified in this town.
The result has been that garbage is dumped everywhere, more so at the heavily-congested Jayashree square which is the main entrance to the town. To add to the woes, dogs and scavenger birds dirty the entire area creating an unpleasant environment.
People who use the stretch on a daily basis have the very bad experiences to narrate.
“You will feel sick walking across the stretch because of the stench. It is as if the area has turned into a garbage dump for the entire city,” said a few locals.
Others alleged that the area has also become accident-prone. Regularly dogs come in front of two and four-wheelers forcing them to swerve suddenly which in turn lead to accidents,” they alleged.
The entire of garbage generated in all the 12 wards of the NAC is being dumped on the both sides of the road at Jayashree Square.
Residents living in the area have appealed to the NAC authorities for relief, but their pleas seem to have fallen on deaf ears. This has led to resentment among the locals.
A few months back, Chhatrapur MLA Subash Chandra Behera had proposed setting up a waste management plant in the Kainchapur area. However, only discussions have taken place, there has not been any concrete development.
When asked about the delay in setting up the plant, NAC executive officer Prabhu Kalyan Das said a suitable place for the project has already been earmarked. Work on the project would soon be started, Das added.
