Cuttack: A PIL was filed in the High Court Thursday over alleged encroachment of government lands by SUM Hospital owner Manoj Ranjan Nayak and some other private engineering and medical colleges in Bhubaneswar.
Achyutananda Swain, a social activist of Kalyansinghpur in Khurda, has filed the petition. Swain brought similar allegations of land grabbing against High-Tech Medical College, Orissa Engineering College, KIIT and other private and engineering colleges in Bhubaneswar.
The medical and engineering college authorities carried out construction activities on most of the encroached land. While the encroached lands include forest land, roads, crematorium and playground, it has been used for commercial purpose, the petitioner alleged.
Seeking a high-level probe into the matter, the petitioner made chief secretary, law secretary, revenue secretary, estate director of general administration department, urban development secretary, BMC commissioner, BDA vice-chairman, Khurda collector and Bhubaneswar tehsildar parities to the case.
