Nimapara: An attempt to recover the loan turned fatal for a 32-year-old man, who was bludgeoned to death with iron rods by four people.
The shocking incident took place at Alanda village under Nimapara Notified Area Council (NAC) Saturday evening. The deceased was identified as Dhiranjan Rout.
According to sources, Rout had lent Rs 10,000 to Pratap Pradhan of Dipirenta of adjoining Alanda village a few days back. Rout met Pradhan near the New Bus Stand area Saturday evening and asked him to repay the amount. As the latter refused, the duo soon got into a heated argument.
Later, an irate Pratap along with his brother Pradip, father Parikhit and one acquaintance Ganua Behera of Andia Sahi attacked Rout. They repeatedly hit Rout’s head with iron rods and kicked and punched him in the chest and abdomen.
Injured critically, Rout fell unconscious on the spot. Later, some locals rushed him to Nimapara hospital. As his condition deteriorated, doctors referred him to Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar. However, the doctors pronounced him ‘brought dead’ upon arrival.
Sunday morning, the deceased’s elder brother Kalindi lodged a complaint against the four accused. Nimapara police visited Capital Hospital and got the post-mortem conducted of the deceased done and handed over the body to his family members.
The police have registered a case under relevant sections of IPC and arrested Parikhit from his house. “Other accused are on the run. They will be nabbed soon,” said investigating officer Pramod Das.
