Sambalpur/Gopalpur: Two persons were killed in lightning strikes Monday in the districts of Sambalpur and Ganjam. Two others also suffered injuries. In the first incident, a woman died while two others were injured in a lightning strike in Duki village under Jujumura block of Sambalpur district Monday afternoon. The deceased woman has been identified as Lalitha Bhoi, while the injured are Savitri Suhula and Padmini Rana. They were working on their farmland when they were struck by lightning.

Locals rushed all three to Jujumura village community health centre where doctors pronounced Lalitha dead on arrival. Meanwhile, after the condition of Savitri deteriorated she was transferred to a hospital in Sambalpur. In the second case, a 65-year-old man died after being struck by lightning near Dharampur village under Rangeilunda block in Ganjam district Monday afternoon. The deceased has been identified as Bhimsen Sahu, 65, a resident of the same village. He had taken his sheep out for grazing when lightning struck.
