Aradi: The livestock in the villages of Aradi, Sundarpur, Olaga and Nandapur panchayats of Chandbali block in Bhadrak district are suffering from foot-and-mouth disease (FMD).

The necks of the stricken cattle swell up and mucus starts coming out of their mouths. If treatment is not given immediately and medicines are not administered, the cattle die within two or three days.

Villagers say that due to the severe heat of around 40 degree Celsius after the cyclone, cattle are becoming vulnerable to FMD. Moreover, preventive vaccination against the disease was not carried out in these villages.

Three cows of Kuleipada in Sundarpur panchayat have died of FMD. Similarly, in Pahana, Singipur and Olaga cows and stray oxen have died.

Villagers are now in panic over the disease. They say that no veterinary doctor has visited their areas so far. Local people have demanded that the authorities should immediately vaccinate all cattle against FMD.
