Rayagada, April 9: Hundreds of medicines bottles containing vitamin B-12 and B- 2 complex syrup were found lying under a bush near Rayat Colony Square in Rayagada town Thursday. The place where these medicine bottles were found is situated along the road connecting to the district headquarters hospital.
Significantly, the labels which were attached to these bottles were found to have been removed.
The government provides various types of medicines to hospitals for distribution among patients at free of cost. Despite this, many people in rural and tribal dominated areas are not getting free medicines and are compelled to buy them from outside stores.
This incident is a clear case of negligence by the hospital staff. Instead of supplying these medicines to the people, they were simply dumped. The incident has not gone down well among the locals and they demanded for conducting proper inquiry into the matter.
When queried, the district project manager of national rural health mission, Rajeswar Pattanaik said that the district health department generally prepares a list of medicines required for one year and asks the government to supply them.
Pattanaik added that he was not aware of the incident related to dumping of medicines near Rayat Colony Square and will visit the place to inquire the matter.
Meanwhile, the chief district medical officer, Ananda Padhi, said that he would conduct a probe into the incident.
