Phulbani: Vehicular movement on National Highway 59 in Kandhamal district came to a grinding halt Wednesday as scores of villagers staged a road blockade to protest against the shortage of teachers at Paramadanga High School under Baliguda block.
The agitating villagers led by sarpanchs of Paramadanga and Dadakangia panchayats blocked the highway connecting Rayagada-Kandhamal.
Commuters had a harrowing time as hundreds of vehicles remained stranded for hours on the busy road.
The agitators demanded the immediate appointment of teachers at the school.
The agitators said more than 250 students are studying at the school and shortage of teachers has adversely affected the future of children.
