Balasore: Hundred of people staged a road blockade on the Mirzapur-Arada bazaar road at Gopalgan in Balasore Friday over frequent power outage in the area. Vehicular movement was completely paralysed on the road with an ambulance having stuck for hours.
The agitating people demanded installation of a high power transformer to stabilize electricity supply to cater to the needs of thousands of consumers in Chunbhati, Talasahi and VIP Colony.
Locals alleged that over 2000 people live in the area, but only a 250KW transformer is set up for them. Due to power overloading, the people face low voltage and frequent disruptions of current.
They had drawn attention of the Nesco authorities several times in the past, but no corrective measures were taken. Five days ago, the transformer went out of order.
Locals had intimated the matter to the NESCO authorities, but nothing was done.
Angry over power outage and apathy of the Nesco, locals took to the streets.
IIC Sarojini Nayak rushed to the spot and assures that the Nesco will be asked to install a 500KW transformer by Monday. Later locals relented.
