Beguniapada: An attempt by armed miscreants to loot Kanchana-based Indian Bank under Beguniapada police outpost in Ganjam district was foiled after the looters failed to break open the locker Monday night.
The siren rang up scaring away the robbers who fled leaving the task half-way. Although, the miscreants broke open three locks and the strong room of the bank, they failed to loot money and gold.
The matter came to the fore after some women on their way to take bath in the local pond early Tuesday morning heard the siren ringing and informed a tea-seller who on the other hand informed the bank employees.
Later, bank employees Srinibas Gosh and Sushil Kumar Sahu along with the bank manager Kumar Dinesh Rao reached the bank only to find the locks broken. Late, they alerted the police.
The oupost officer Pradipt Kumar Das and Kodala SI Biswanath Jahil along with a scientific team reached the bank and launched a probe. Luckily, the looters could not take the gold and the money as the siren went off. They ran away in fear, the investigating team said.
Earlier, three miscreants had looted Rs 5.60 lakh from the bank after locking the bank manager and the cashier inside the strong room. Repeated incidents of loots in the bank have left the locals worried. The police have failed to get a lead into the first case while the latest incident has put up a challenge for them. PNN
