LPG tanker leakage triggers panic on NH

Angul: Panic gripped the residents of Chandrabahal in Angul district Friday after a tanker carrying highly inflammable liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) developed a leakage while being transported on the National Highway-55.

The gas was spotted leaking from the top part of the tanker. The driver of the tanker fled the spot after the leakage, leaving the vehicle along the road. On being informed, a police team and fire personnel reached the spot to contain the leakage.

Vehicular movement got affected due to the incident with hundreds of vehicles remaining stranded on either side of the NH.

The district administration has advised the locals to stay away from the tanker. Residents of nearby areas have also abstained themselves from kitchen activities in a bid to avoid any fire mishap.

Till last reports came in, efforts were on to stop the leakage.
