Bhubaneswar, Dec 11: Rutuparna Choudhury of Orissa emerged champion in the under-16 category of the All India Super Series tennis tournament, which concluded Friday in Pune. In the final Rutu defeated Richa Chowgle of Maharashtra 6-3, 6-4.
Incidentally, Rutu who is under-14 has been regularly been playing in the under-16 segment just to improve her standards. She was all over her opponent in the final to lift her 13th singles title in 2015. She dominated the final completely and never allowed her year-older adversary to settle down.
Talking about his wards achievement, coach Farhan Ali was all praise. “This was a really tough event with all the top India players participating in the meet. So to win the title is no mean feat,” said Farhan. By virtue of the win, Rutu accumulated 50 ranking points.
Umpire selected
Nishan Jyoti Mohanty has been selected to officiate in the 74th Mahant Raja Sarweshwardas Memorial All India Senior Hockey Tournament at Rajnandgaon, December 14-23. This is the first time that he will be officiating in a senior event.
Semifinalists spotted
