Bhubaneswar, Dec 29: India’s leading eye care service provider LV Prasad Eye Institute Monday received
`2 crore from Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (IOCL) for providing specialised eye treatment to the rural masses in the state.
“IOCL provided `2 crore to the LV Prasad Eye Institute for the purpose of creating facilities in rural areas,” Union oil minister Dharmendra Pradhan said after handing over an approval note to the LV Prasad Eye Institute’s vice-chairman Dr T P Das.
Das said LVPEI has been developing two eye care centres in tribal-dominated areas of Rayagada and Rajgangpur in Sundargarh district.
“The support of the IOCL will help us open centres in rural areas,” Das said adding LVPEI has plans to open six eye care centres in rural areas of the state in two phases.
While the institute has already started working on its Rayagada and Rajgangpur projects, the third one will come up at Angul in the campuses of the Nalco, said Pradhan adding the centre would request all PSUs to come forward and assist in setting up specialised eye care centres in rural areas of the state.
Pradhan said Indian Oil-LVPEI Centre for Rural Eye Health has been designed to provide solution to blindness in rural areas of Bhubaneswar.
“This will be extended for free of cost eye treatment for poor people. The fund will be used for developing infrastructure,” a release said.
