Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi Friday urged police to maintain the highest standards of law and order, saying it was essential for building a ‘Viksit Odisha’ and boosting industrialisation in the state.
Addressing the passing-out ceremony of 336 newly appointed sub-inspectors, including 70 women, CM Majhi asked the young officers to follow three principles throughout their careers — stay away from corruption, maintain the highest standards of discipline and never misuse the power of the uniform.
Reiterating the state government’s commitment to making Odisha a “drug-free state” by 2029, the chief minister said police had a major role to play in achieving the goal.
He said drug mafias should be dealt with firmly, while police personnel must use their powers to deliver justice to vulnerable sections of society and uphold the core principle of ‘Service and Protection’.
Congratulating the newly appointed sub-inspectors, Majhi urged them to completely stay away from corruption in keeping with the government’s zero-tolerance policy.
He stressed the need to maintain discipline in the uniformed service and urged the officers not to misuse their authority, ensuring that the innocent are protected and criminals face strict action in accordance with the law.
