Malkangiri: The Malkangiri district administration has declared a holiday for all schools and Anganwadi centres Saturday in view of heavy rainfall and an India Meteorological Department alert for the district.
The closure covers educational institutions from the primary to higher secondary levels. The administration has also cancelled the leave of all government employees as part of precautionary measures.
The Collector has directed officials to ensure adequate stocks of dry food are available across the district to deal with any situation arising from the heavy rain.
Malkangiri has recorded 804 mm of rainfall, with the district’s average standing at 114.87 mm. Chitrakonda received the highest rainfall at 192 mm, followed by Khairput at 142 mm, Korukonda at 140 mm and Malkangiri at 136 mm.
The district administration is monitoring the situation and taking preparedness measures in view of the prevailing weather conditions.
