Berhampur: Sadar police here arrested a youth on charge of extorting pension money of his elderly parents and assaulting them, Saturday.
The accused was identified as Santanu Kumar Mishra (35), son of Sushma and Debaraj Mishra at Chandrasekhar Nagar in Nimakhandi of the town. A case was registered in this connection and the accused produced in court.
Police said Santanu used to demand money from his parents and beat them up if they ever refuse to give him. The accused even used to snatch away the pension money of the couple. The couple initially kept quiet and did not reveal it before others as he was their only son.
However, things crossed all limits when Santanu returned home in an inebriated condition and assaulted his father Debaraj for money, Friday night. He even abused his mother Sushma and threatened her of dire consequences when she intervened. Enraged, he ransacked the house and locked up his elderly parents in a room.
On being informed, Nimakhandi outpost police rushed to the spot and rescued the elderly couple from detention. Later, police arrested their son over their complaint.
