Harabhanga: In a shocking incident stemming from a domestic dispute, a man allegedly killed his wife with an axe late Friday night in a slum behind Purunakatak police station in Boudh district.
The deceased woman has been identified as Kuni Guru, 35. Her husband, Sajan Pradhan, 38, was arrested and produced in court Saturday.
Police have registered a case (114/25) at the Purunakatak police station and launched an investigation.
Sajan, a native of Tukulunda village under Harabhanga block in Boudh district, had married Kuni, from the neighbouring village of Lokapada, around 10 years ago following a romantic relationship.
They belonged to different castes and had been working as migrant labourers in another state after their marriage.
They had returned to Odisha a few years back and were living in a rented house.
A quarrel reportedly broke out between the couple Friday night, during which Sajan struck Kuni with an axe.
She was rushed to Purunakatak hospital in critical condition, but was declared dead shortly after.
Following the incident, Sajan surrendered at the police station.
The body has been sent to the Boudh District Headquarters Hospital for autopsy.
