Koraput: A dispute over a salap tree went awry in Rudhichua village under Kasandi panchayat of Nandapur block in Koraput district, as a man died after being assaulted by his younger brother Sunday.
The deceased has been identified as 38-year-old Jayaram Pangi. His wife, Mani, lodged a written complaint at the Padua police station regarding the incident.
According to the complaint, Jayaram and his younger brother, 35-year-old Ram Pangi, quarrelled over a salap tree on their property August 22.
In a fit of rage, Ram allegedly attacked Jayaram with a wooden stick. Jayaram sustained head injuries and was receiving treatment at home.

As his condition worsened Saturday morning, his wife and Ram first took him to the Nandapur community health centre and later to the district hospital in Koraput.
Doctors there referred him to Visakhapatnam due to the severity of his head injuries.
However, the family brought him back home to prepare for the referral, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Following his wife’s complaint, police registered a case (100/25).
Padua PS Officer-In-Charge Ashok Kumar Bishoi, Nandapur PS Inspector Mamata Panda, Sub-Inspectors Hrushikesh Benia and Tuna Sabar, along with Surendra Sethi, reached Rudhichua village and seized the body.
The body has been kept at the Nandapur community health centre morgue. Ram has been detained for questioning.
Police said a forensic team from the district headquarters will visit the village for further investigation Monday.
